About AUSTAT

OUR Story

Championing the Alexander Technique since 1985

The Australian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AUSTAT) is the leading organisation for teachers in Australia and Taiwan. Founded in 1985 and incorporated in 2000, we uphold the highest standards in training, ethics, and professional practice.

We set benchmarks for teacher training, oversee professional standards, and represent our members to governments, the media, and health funds. Above all, we work to support teachers and share the benefits of the Alexander Technique with communities everywhere.

To achieve this, AUSTAT provides a range of services to support our members and the wider community:

  • Developing teaching pedagogy and Training Standards in consultation with members, to ensure the highest quality teaching across Australia and Taiwan.
  • Supporting teacher members in their practice by providing guidance on best practice, professional standards, and access to comprehensive business insurance through our preferred insurer.
  • Offering diverse opportunities for continuing professional development through collaboration, education, and innovation in Alexander Technique teaching.
  • Promoting and sharing the Alexander Technique to increase awareness of its benefits within Australia and Taiwan.
